Our
Story

South West Footwear Drive_edited_edited_

We are Tanya and Aisha—two podiatrists in Warrnambool and proud members of the local community—working to ensure that everyone has access to safe, comfortable footwear.

What began as a small collection of donated shoes under Tanya’s desk in 2020 has grown into a heartfelt, community-driven project. Today, we work to distribute new and gently worn shoes to vulnerable and financially disadvantaged individuals across South West Victoria—no questions asked, just care and support.

We see ourselves as a bridge between the generosity of local donors and those doing it tough. Our work is made possible by incredible local support from businesses like Rauert’s, Rebel Sport, Intersport, local running and umpiring clubs, community health centres, and fellow health professionals.

This is a project for the community, by the community.

Why we do it

Shoes are more than just something we wear.

They’re essential for mobility, dignity, health, work, social connection, and opportunity. In our line of work and throughout our community, we’ve seen individuals trying to get by in shoes that are broken, ill-fitting, or decades old—sometimes with no shoes at all. The impact of this can be severe, not just physically but emotionally.

Rather than accept this as “just the way it is,” we asked: What can we do? That simple question sparked this project.

In recent years, the rising cost of living has left many people facing hardship. Something as simple as a well-fitting pair of shoes can provide comfort, ease pain, offer protection, and even restore confidence and self-worth.This initiative is about more than footwear. It’s about listening without judgment, restoring dignity, and helping people take a step toward a better day.

Get involved

We rely on the kindness and support of our community to keep this project going.

If you’re a local business or individual who’d like to contribute—whether through donations of new or gently worn shoes, socks, or sponsorships—we’d love to hear from you. Your support directly improves lives in our region.

If you work with vulnerable individuals who may benefit from this initiative, please don’t hesitate to connect with us.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference—
one pair of shoes at a time.
